ST-13A Automatic Potentiometric Titrimeter

The ST-13A automatic potentiometric titrimeter is designed in accordance with standards such as Method 2, Cold Solvent Automatic Potentiometric Titration, in GB5009.229-2016 "Determination of Acid Value in Foods" and GB5009.227-2023 "Determination of Peroxide Value in Foods".

The instrument employs potentiometric titration to automatically identify the titration endpoint and calculate the result. It is suitable for determining acid value in various samples, including food acid value. The determination of acid value is one of the important indicators for assessing the quality of edible oil. The titration system utilizes imported components and is made of corrosion-resistant materials, ensuring precise measurement results and a long service life.

Instrument features:

● The system operates on a general-purpose microcomputer operating system, specifically Windows 10, utilizing a human-computer interaction approach with clear, straightforward, and easy-to-follow steps. The dedicated software features a Chinese-language graphical user interface, allowing for mouse and keyboard operations, with user-friendly human-computer interaction.

● Display the potential curve (E-V), first derivative curve (dE/dV), electrode potential (E), titration volume (V), and titration result in real time

● Browse titration data throughout the entire process, with powerful data processing capabilities that facilitate the reprocessing of results; store vast amounts of titration results, data, and curves, and save titration process data as Excel documents for easy future reference

The reagents for determining acid value by potentiometric titration are as follows: (Reagents need to be prepared by yourself)

Reagent:

● Isopropanol (C3H8O)

● C4H10O

● AC4H10O

Petroleum spirit, boiling range of 30℃-60℃

Reagent preparation

● Potassium hydroxide standard titration aqueous solution, with a concentration of 0.1 mol/L, is prepared and calibrated according to the requirements of GB/T601 standard. Alternatively, commercially available reagents can be purchased.

C4H10O-isopropanol mixture: C4H10O + isopropanol = 1 + 1. Mix 500ml of C4H10O and 500ml of isopropanol until fully dissolved and use immediately.

The reagents for peroxide value determination by potentiometric titration are as follows (reagents to be prepared by the user) (extracted from national standards)

Reagent

● Glacial acetic acid.

● Isooctyl burn.

● Potassium iodide.

● Sodium thiosulfate.

● Potassium dichromate: working chemical.

Reagent preparation

9.2.1. Isooctane-glacial acetic acid mixture:

Take 40 mL of isooctane and add 60 mL of glacial acetic acid. Mix them well.

9.2.2. Saturated solution of potassium iodide:

Weigh 20g of potassium iodide, add 10mL of freshly boiled and cooled water, mix well, and store in a brown bottle in a dark place for future use. Ensure that there are saturated potassium iodide crystals present in the solution.

Pre-use inspection: Add 0.5 mL of saturated potassium iodide solution and 2 drops of 1% starch indicator to 30 mL of a mixture of isooctane and glacial acetic acid. If a blue color appears and requires more than 1 drop of 0.01 mol/L sodium thiosulfate solution to eliminate, the solution should be re-prepared.

9.3 Preparation of standard solution

9.3.1. 0.1 mol/L sodium thiosulfate standard solution: Weigh 26g of sodium thiosulfate and add 0.2g of anhydrous sodium carbonate. Dissolve in 100ml of water, slowly boil for 10 minutes, and then cool. After two weeks, filter and calibrate.

9.3.2. 0.01mol/L sodium thiosulfate standard solution: prepared by diluting with newly boiled and cooled water as described in 9.3.1. Prepare immediately before use.
